Ceasefire violations have been reported at several points across the Middle East conflict, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said. His country has served as a key mediator in the talks between the United States and Iran.
“Reports are coming in of ceasefire violations in several places across the conflict zone, undermining the spirit of the peace process,” he wrote on X.
Sharif urged the parties to “exercise restraint and observe the ceasefire for the agreed two-week period.”
Against that backdrop, Iran suspended shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, according to the Fars news agency. Tehran linked the move to Israel’s continuing large-scale strikes on Hezbollah in Lebanon despite the declared ceasefire.
The United States and Iran announced the two-week truce overnight into April 8. One of its conditions was that Iran would resume navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
