In Minneapolis, Minnesota, officers with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement shot and killed a woman who attempted to block their path by driving her car toward them. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed the fatality. The agency said ICE officers were conducting “targeted operations” when individuals involved in disturbances began to interfere with their actions, and one woman “used her vehicle as a weapon,” attempting to run over the officers. In response, an ICE agent “fired defensive shots,” the department said.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem described the incident as “an act of domestic terrorism.” According to her account, ICE officers were carrying out a “law-enforcement operation,” but their vehicle became stuck in the snow due to severe weather conditions. As officers attempted to push the car free, the woman, the department said, attacked them and bystanders, attempting to run people over and ram them with her vehicle.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said he was aware of the shooting involving an ICE agent and demanded the agency’s immediate withdrawal from the city, saying its presence “sows chaos.”
The victim’s name has not been released. The mayor said she was 37 years old. Minneapolis City Council member Jason Chavez said the woman was a US citizen who was “present nearby as an observer” and was “looking out for her immigrant neighbors.”
