US President Donald Trump said that protesters in Iran should know that “HELP IS ON ITS WAY,” urging them to seize the country’s state institutions.
In a post on his Truth Social platform on Tuesday, he said he had canceled “all meetings” with Iranian officials until the killing of protest participants stops.
“Iranian Patriots, KEEP PROTESTING — TAKE OVER YOUR INSTITUTIONS!!!” Trump wrote. “Save the names of the killers and abusers. They will pay a big price . . . HELP IS ON ITS WAY.”
At the same time, Trump is considering the possibility of US military intervention in Iran. On Sunday, he said that the American military is “studying the situation, and we are looking at very tough options,” adding that Tehran, by intensifying the crackdown on protests, had begun to cross a red line he had set.
Mass protests have swept across Iran nationwide since late December, driven by economic hardship and widespread dissatisfaction with the regime.
According to estimates by some activist groups, more than 500 people have been killed during this period, including dozens of members of the security forces. Thousands more, they say, have been detained.
