A hacking group describing itself as activist has gained unauthorized access to Spotify’s infrastructure and, according to Billboard, downloaded a substantial volume of the platform’s data, including audio files.
In a post on the Annaʼs Archive blog, the perpetrators claim they obtained 86 million tracks as well as 256 million rows of metadata. They say the material is intended for distribution via torrent networks.
Spotify acknowledged the metadata breach and confirmed that the hackers gained access “to some of the platform’s audio files,” without specifying the full scope of the incident.
According to the company’s official figures, Spotify’s library includes more than 100 million music tracks, nearly seven million podcasts, and around 350,000 audiobooks.
