Five people were killed in a shooting in the city of Stade in northern Germany, Reuters reports, citing police. The suspect has been detained. Law enforcement authorities have not yet disclosed further details.
According to NDR, police warned local residents that an operation was underway on Dankersstrasse and asked them to avoid the area.
NTV, citing law enforcement officials, reports that the shooting took place at a youth center.

According to Bild, the shooting in Stade was carried out by a 45-year-old German resident of Turkish origin. German law enforcement authorities believe the crime was most likely linked to personal motives and was not related to politics or organized crime.
The death toll has risen to six. All of them worked at the child-care center.
Stade is located about 50 kilometers from Hamburg. About 50,000 people live in the city.
