Former Ukrainian energy minister German Galushchenko, who left office in November 2025, was detained overnight into February 15 while attempting to leave the country.
According to Ukrainska Pravda, Galushchenko was removed from a train. A source told the outlet that the border service acted on a request from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office—the agencies had asked to be notified if the former minister attempted to cross the border.
NABU confirmed the detention. “Today, while crossing the state border, NABU detectives detained the former energy minister in connection with the Midas case,” the bureau said in an official statement.
Galushchenko headed the Ministry of Energy in April 2021 and in July 2025 was appointed minister of justice. After his departure, the Energy Ministry was taken over by Svitlana Hrynchuk. In November 2025, the Verkhovna Rada dismissed both officials amid a corruption scandal surrounding the state-owned Energoatom and businessman Timur Mindich. As part of Operation “Midas,” anti-corruption agencies carried out searches, including at Galushchenko’s premises.
