China placed responsibility for the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz on the actions of the United States and Israel, saying their military operations against Iran were the root cause of the disruption to shipping.
Lin Jian, a spokesperson for China’s foreign ministry, said that the “illegal military operations” of Washington and Tel Aviv lay at the heart of the situation, stressing that “only an end to military action and the restoration of peace and stability in the Persian Gulf can guarantee the openness and security of this international shipping route”.
He said the international community must coordinate efforts to de-escalate the situation in order to prevent regional tensions from inflicting further damage on the global economy and energy security.
