Bulgarian President Rumen Radev announced his intention to step down, BTA reported on January 19.
In an address to the nation, Radev said he would formally submit his resignation on January 20. According to him, Vice President Iliana Iotova would be able to assume the duties of head of state and would become a “worthy acting president.”
As Reuters notes, Radev’s announcement has sparked speculation that he may be planning to form his own political party and take part in snap parliamentary elections.
