From the podium of the UN General Assembly, Donald Trump questioned the very effectiveness of the organization.
“What is the purpose of the UN? It has enormous potential, but it is nowhere near realizing it. Words are still stronger than deeds, and they do not stop wars,” the US president said. According to him, in his efforts to halt conflicts, he received no support from the UN.
Trump could not resist a sarcastic aside: “A broken escalator and a broken teleprompter—that’s what I got from the UN.”
The American leader also accused the organization of waste and corruption. He claimed that between $2 billion and $4 billion had been “stolen” during the renovation of the Secretariat building. “That’s how everything is with you,” he concluded, calling the UN an ineffective structure.
Russia’s War Against Ukraine and the Role of the US
Speaking about the war in Europe, Trump stressed that he had counted on a swift end to hostilities, relying on his personal ties with Vladimir Putin.
“Everyone thought Russia would win this war in three days, but it didn’t happen. It was supposed to be just a minor skirmish. This does not add to Russia’s prestige. It makes it look bad. Whatever happens next, this should have been a matter of days—certainly less than a week,” he said.
Washington, he added, is ready to impose tough tariffs on Moscow, but results can only be achieved in coordination with Europe. “They are buying oil and gas from Russia. We will discuss this today with the European countries that are here now,” the US president noted.

Europe and the “Disgrace” of Energy Dependence
European energy policy became one of the main targets of criticism. Trump called the practice of buying oil and gas from Moscow “disgraceful.”
“I cannot do what they are doing. They buy oil and gas from Russia while at the same time fighting Russia. For them it is a disgrace, and I can tell you, they were very embarrassed when I found out about it,” the American president said.

China and India as “Sponsors of War”
In his speech, Trump also lashed out at the largest Asian buyers of Russian energy. According to him, China and India have become the “main sponsors” of the war by continuing to purchase oil and gas from Russia, thereby fueling its war economy.

Sharp criticism of European migration policy was also on display. “Europe has been overwhelmed by a wave of illegal migrants like never before, and no one is doing anything to stop it,” Trump said.
He took aim at the mayor of London, calling him “horrible,” and said the city had “changed dramatically” and now “wants Sharia law.”
“Migrants repay kindness with murder and violence. Every country must have the right to defend its borders, to preserve its culture—it’s a wonderful thing,” he added.
