Technology billionaire Bill Gates will appear before the House committee investigating the activities of disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein on June 10, according to a source familiar with the plans.
The Microsoft co-founder is among a number of prominent figures with ties to Epstein whom House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer has invited to testify in transcribed interviews.
Gates has previously described his contacts with Epstein as a “huge mistake” and denied any wrongdoing. A representative for Gates did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but after the committee’s initial outreach said the billionaire welcomed the opportunity to appear before lawmakers.
As The New York Times reported in 2019, Gates met with Epstein several times beginning in 2011 and on one occasion remained at his New York townhouse until late in the evening. The former Microsoft chief said they had discussed a philanthropic project, but the contacts ended after the prospects of securing funding diminished.
