Catalan club Barcelona secured the Spanish league title ahead of schedule after defeating Real Madrid 2-0 in the season’s biggest match.
The game took place on May 10 at the club’s home stadium, Spotify Camp Nou. Before kickoff, a minute of silence was held after the father of Barcelona head coach Hans-Dieter Flick died on the day of the match.
Heading into El Clásico, the Catalan side led La Liga by 11 points over Real Madrid. Barcelona only needed a draw to clinch the title early, but the victory secured the championship with three matches remaining in the season, leaving the Madrid club unable to catch the leaders on points.
After the final whistle, Flick joined the players in the celebrations and trophy presentation ceremony. Despite his father’s death, the coach chose not to miss the match.
Barcelona won the Spanish title for the 29th time in club history and for the second consecutive season. It is also the club’s second trophy under Hansi Flick, who took charge ahead of the 2024/2025 season. The German coach previously managed the German national team.
