A shooting broke out at the Ahmet Koyuncu Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in the Siverek district of Turkey’s Sanliurfa province, leaving several people wounded, the newspaper Hürriyet reported.
According to the authorities, a man armed with a hunting rifle entered the building and opened indiscriminate fire. Hasan Sildak, the governor of Sanliurfa, said 16 people were wounded. Doctors described the condition of two teachers and two students as moderate.
The attacker, the governor said, took his own life as police were trying to stop the shooting and disarm him. The motive for the attack remains unknown. He is reported to have been a former student of the school, born in 2007.
A witness said the gunman entered through the main entrance and opened fire with a long-barreled weapon. “At first he was shooting left and right, then toward the school. Then he ran inside. Once inside, he was firing directly at everyone who crossed his path,” the source told Hürriyet.
