Anthony Fauci, who in the United States is accused of involvement in funding research linked to COVID-19, has refused to testify voluntarily before Congress.
Republican Senator Rand Paul said he has already sent Fauci a subpoena requiring him to appear publicly before the Homeland Security Committee next month.
Paul claims that research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, whose funding he says Fauci was involved in, including through USAID and NIH structures, led to the pandemic.
“Dr. Fauci personally approved these experiments and then lied to Congress about it. Biden tried to protect him by issuing a last-minute pardon. This is the very definition of a cover-up,” Paul said.
According to declassified materials from U.S. National Intelligence, Fauci, while heading the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, oversaw funding for research on bat coronaviruses conducted at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
