The far-right Alternative for Germany is once again leading electoral polls and continues to strengthen its position.
According to a YouGov survey, if an election were held this coming Sunday, the party would be backed by 27% of voters—one percentage point more than a month earlier. Against that backdrop, the parties in the governing coalition are losing support: the CDU/CSU bloc has fallen to 23%, while the SPD is down to 13%. The Social Democrats have also slipped behind the Greens, who are polling at 14%.
At the same time, dissatisfaction with the government’s performance is growing: 79% of respondents said they were unhappy with its work. Even among CDU supporters, approval has fallen sharply—from 48% in March to 34% in April.
