Roman Abramovich has refused to transfer to Ukraine the proceeds from the sale of the Chelsea football club, despite a corresponding demand from the British authorities, reports The Times.
According to the newspaper, the sum in question amounts to approximately £2.5 billion generated by the transaction. The funds remain frozen in accounts linked to Abramovich under the UK sanctions regime.
As sources cited by The Times say, the businessman has assembled a legal team and is preparing to challenge the government’s position in court. Abramovich rejects London’s terms requiring the transfer of the money to Ukraine and intends to seek an alternative resolution regarding the future disposition of the funds.
